2017 | A Year In Review

2017 has been a year full of amazing adventures, some great friendships, and some not so amazing learning experiences. I have watched my business grow and prosper, I have had the chances to travel across the United States, and I feel like I have learned so much more this year than any of the other before it.

A Snowy Day | Jackson, MI

It’s December in Michigan, which usually means cold negative weather..

Not this year, the good ol' Mitten State had other plans. The fall time was non-existent and then we have had temperatures in the 50s even in what are usually the coldest months of the year. Not that I am complaining over here, I am not a fan of the cold at all. I blame my North Carolina blood for that...

Project 365 | November

I have spent the past three years exploring parenthood and the vulnerabilities that it brings. My thesis closed the chapter on insecurity and opened a new one for me to document parenthood in a new way. This year, I decided to showcase parenthood as it is. Each day I will capture a photograph from a moment in my family's personal life. They won't be perfect because, like life, nothing is, you take what you can get. This year will bring many journeys for my family, and I can't wait to share them with you.

Open Your Heart Give Away | Jackson, MI

I am so very excited to announce this special photo session giveaway! I feel incredibly blessed with how fortunate my family has been through the years, but I also know how hard it can be to go through life’s obstacles. I believe in Karma to the fullest and giving back to your community, so I love the opportunity to gift someone deserving with something special, a professional photo session that documents their family for a lifetime. I started this giveaway last year and it was something I loved so much that I decided to make an annual Christmas tradition. After all, it is the season of giving, love, and family.

Black Swan Stylized Session | Halloween 2017 | Jackson, MI

I have always loved Swan Lake; It could be because of my dance and ballet background, or the fact that I love a good fairy tale story.. depending on the version you read.

I considered remaking the white swan this year, but with it being October and Halloween season, I had to put that aside and embrace my inner Natalie Portman and create a Black Swan.

Hot Cocoa Mini Sessions | Jackson, MI | Christmas 2017

I know, I know, I said that the campfire minis I just hosted would be the last mini sessions I did this year. But, I was working out my idea for our family Christmas cards this year and ended up choosing a family hot cocoa theme. Simple for a toddler, yet still festive enough that it works for the holidays.

Since it was such a cute idea, I decided that I would share it with everyone...

Dia De Los Muertos Styled Session | Jackson, MI

I decided to revisit a past stylized shoot from a few years ago. I'm Mexican, so I loved when I was able to spend time with Jaci on this Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) shoot. For those that are not familiar with the holiday, the Mexican Day of the Dead celebration is a time to honor the dead. The Spanish tradition, includes a three day festival full of parades and celebration of the life of the dead, as well as gatherings of families at cemeteries to pray for their deceased loved ones at the end of the day.

Planning Your Fall Session

It is that time of year! Fall!

In Michigan, that means campfires, pumpkins, scarfs, hot chocolate, football, cider, and some amazing foliage. Which is why the month of October is the busiest times for photographer in the Midwest. Now, we all know that I adore summer and the beach, but if the one thing living in the south taught me, do not waste the leaves. The colors don't change in southern North Carolina! So I always make sure to embrace the fall while we still live here.

Those Late Summer Nights | Jackson, MI

Sometimes, we don't need the beach days and a family get away to relax and spend time with one another. Many times, though it would be nice to, we can't make time, we can't coordinate schedules, we just can't get away from the hustle and bustle of our regular world. It sucks, because when do you really find the time to just relax and enjoy yourself while we are all still young?
