Ebony Jean | Alopecia Awareness Fashion Shoot | Jackson, MI

Ebony and I have been Facebook and Instagram friends for a while now. Last year, I followed her story as she came out and told the world that she had Alopicia. As an inspiring model, she has been working on awareness for other girls with her condition and has been rocking the "bald."

She has truly been an inspiration to others, showing that beauty is indeed on the inside. Hair or not, you are amazing and fabulous. I am so blessed to have been able to have this opportunity to work with her. I cannot wait to see what the future holds.

For those that don't know what Alopecia is:

Alopecia areata, also known as spot baldness, is a condition in which hair is lost from some or all areas of the body. Often it results in a few bald spots on the scalp, each about the size of a coin. Psychological stress may result. People are generally otherwise healthy. In a few all the hair on the scalp or all body hair is lost and loss can be permanent.

There is no cure for the condition. Efforts may be used to try speed hair regrowth such as cortisone injections. Sunscreen, head coverings to protect from cold and sun, and glasses if the eyelashes are missing is recommended. In some cases the hair regrows and the condition does not reoccur. In others hair loss and regrowth occurs over years.

About 2% of people are affected in the United States. Onset is usually in childhood. Males and females have the condition in equal numbers.

“Whether you are bald by an autoimmune disease, or by personal choice, you are still fabulous. It is the quality of your character and soul that make you, you. And that is a beautiful and special person.”
