Long Distance Valentines

I’m not typically a sucker for holidays, but I do love something about this Cupid day. Maybe it’s because I’m a wedding photographer and I adore a good love story, or maybe it’s because I tend to never get to celebrate it. I’m not quite sure, but I’m leaning towards the first option.

In the past decade or so that we have been together, we have only been together for a small handful of Valentine’s Days. Whether it was a training mission, a deployment, or just long distance that kept us apart, we never really got a chance to celebrate them. This year is no different in that aspect.

But it is in one.

Though we may have always been separated for Cupid day, AJ and I never have been. We have always spent the day together, eating the chocolate that either dad got him, or some other family member. (AJ loves him some chocolate) We would watch movies and just relax until dad got out of work late that night.

This year, instead of having just one long distance Valentine, I have two. So, I am soaking up the love from everyone else’s day. I love seeing the posts on my feeds about love and all the engagements happening.

Seriously, keep them coming! I’m getting my romance in through you.

Though I cannot be with my loved ones, they’ll be here soon enough and we’ll make it up. We always tend to celebrate the holiday after the fact... actually it’s pretty much every holiday now that I think of it. We never celebrate anything on the day due to our hectic schedules.

The year we are all together for Cupid day will be a weird one. I’m so used to little messages popping up, random cards and fruit (because the way to my heart is through food), and just anticipating when Antonio gets back. I might miss the distance of the holiday actually.

But, until then, I’ll just live through you. So share your love stories with me! I’m a sucker for them!
