Charlee's Birth Story | Marshall, MI

As many of you know, births are one of my favorite things to photograph. The emotion, the rawness, and the bringing in of mew life always catch me right in the feels. It could be because I am a mother myself, or just because I love being apart of such a beautiful moment... Mainly, it's a mix of both.

I met Catherine through Facebook. She found my business page while browsing around during one of my birth story specials and booked with me instantly. I remember the day because I was waiting on my friend from out of state to arrive while I was messaging back and forth with Catherine. She was sweet and compassionate from the beginning and I knew it was going to be a great relationship for us to have for her birth.

We officially met for the first time a couple of months before Catherine was due. We grabbed dinner together at Panera after we got out of work and talked all about her pregnancy and how labor would be and what she wanted from her experience. It was such an easy going conversation between us and it made me excited for her birth.

When Catherine went into labor, it was long. She labored at home for 24 hours after her water broke Friday evening at 6, before she even went to the hospital and visited her Doulas. She had the best support system ever though to help her handle the long labor process. I kept in touch with her the whole time to see how things were and to check on how she was feeling. Though things were progressing slow, I knew that could change in an instant.

I had a gut feeling after I didn't hear for her for a couple of hours and decided to head to her hospital in Marshall early Saturday evening. On my drive there, she texted me about how she was ready for me to come up to the hospital. We even joked about I got there so fast when I arrived.

Though we all hoped her labor would pick up, her baby girl still decided to be stubborn. After 36 hours of labor though, she finally decided to grace everyone with her presence.

Catherine and Chapin already had the name Charlee picked out, after Catherine's grandfather. On June 4th, they welcomed Charlee into this world early in the morning. Weighing 8 lbs 3 oz and 21.5 inches long, she was the perfect miracle that they both prayed for.

Their video is beautiful and *spoiler alert* have a tissue handy.

I loved everything about their birth story, the location, the calmness of the room, and the great support staff that Catherine and Chapin had with their amazing doulas. It was a haven of peace and relaxfulness, the perfect environment for a laboring mother.
