Why Lifestyle Newborn Sessions?

I recently announced that I was not going to be offering anymore studio sessions, and I know many people were wondering why I choose this...

Believe me, I completely understand everyone's confusion, which is why I wanted to create this blog post. As the year has progressed, I have been slowly changing my business style, aesthetic, and types of sessions to fit what I love as a creative. I love newborns, I always have and always will, but I have found that the studio type sessions do not give me the happiness that they used to. I'm not exactly sure why to be honest, but when I am not completely happy with a type of session I provide, I decide to no longer offer them. This is simply as a courtesy to my clients, I only want to provide you with the best of my capabilities, if I feel like something would lack for a session (like, my heart just isn't in it) then I don't want you to see that reflection in your images. These are your memories, and I refuse to ruin that moment.

Which is why I have been switching to a more lifestyle approach to my work. I love connections with people, I have always been interested in those intimate moments that a family has, those things that really make you remember the day and how you felt. That is what fuels me as a photographer...

I mean, can you really remember why your family had all those smiles in your family photo?

Was it because you had to, or because it is what you are supposed to do, or simply because you didn't know what other facial expression to make. That's why I capture these in between moments. I want you to remember the environment you were in when you were cuddling your newborn, those little details of the nursery you worked so hard on, the laughter when your child pees on you in the middle of the session (Yes, it will happen). I want you to have all those little details to cherish.

I'm a mother, so I think that could be why I naturally love capturing the intimate moments that a family has when they bring in a new bundle of joy home. It truly is something different than any other experience. The sleepless nights, the constant feedings, the tears of joy mixed with frustration... Those are all worth cherishing.

I love what I do, and I love being able to give you a story to remember. So that as you look upon each image, you can relive those exact moments and feelings again for years to come.

So, please, understand why I decided to make these changes. I know that it will not be something that is everyone's cup of tea. But, I am hoping that those who wouldn't normally consider this style of session would try it at least once, as I feel it is an experience you should always have tried.

As always, thank you to everyone that has helped and supported me on my journey to being the photographer I am today. It truly means the world and more to me.

I wanted to share my most recent newborn session, as I love everything about it.
